Day 1Pamplona

We begin with a meet and greet welcome, a chance to size up your bikes to fit and take you for a spin in the direction of the Navarra Pyrenees. Our journey begins with a cooking demonstration in a private gastronomy club. First we learn how to make and then to enjoy delicious local dishes.

Day 2Cycling South

We ride south into medieval Navarra reaching a pilgrim’s crossroad with a stop on an iconic 11th century bridge, then visit the high defensive walls and towers of medieval Artajona. Our last stop takes us to the natural defensive church-fortress village, voted Navarra’s most beautiful village in 2018. The cobblestone roads take us up to sample the local specialty migas de pastor. Our fairy tale castle accommodation awaits us, along with a private visit through its courtyards, royal chambers and towers. We follow this with a private visit and wine tasting at an exclusive Navarra winery.

Day 3The Beautiful Baztan Valley

We do an early morning transfer our start point in Irurzun and begin our day cycling northward bound through the Baztan Valley, considered by many to be the most beautiful region of the north. We cycle through a magical beech forest and pass by grazing cattle and latxa sheep. The route climbs a slowly rising, winding mountain pass that culminates in an idyllic landscape of picturesque white-washed Basque farm houses. An afternoon of bliss awaits in the salty hot springs spa and an early dinner in a Michelin recommended fusion cuisine restaurant.

Day 4Ride to the Atlantic Coast

Today our journey takes us to the lush green landscape of the French Basque coast. We climb a spectacular mountain pass in the serenity of a quiet winding road shaded by enormous trees where we ride over the border to France. The reward is reaching the summit with views of the long coast from France to Spain. We travel down to the French Basque coast and into the narrow streets of St. Jean de Luz. The seaside route takes us along the coast with a pitstop for fresh oysters and mussels and some refreshing sparkling white before we take a little boat across the channel to Hondarribia. Take time to explore the hotel or the town of Hondarribia or simply exchange your bike for a beach towel, then re-group for dinner. We sit down for a seafood feast and toast with a glass of local txakoli, the local sparkling wine.

Day 5Sail on the Coast

Today is spectacular! Both a cycling and sailing day – enjoy the best of both worlds because today is a semi-rest day. We cycle out of the hotel and along the coast until we reach a pretty fishing port where we stop for a light lunch and then jump on a beautiful sailboat and sail west from the port of Hondarribia to the Concha Bay in San Sebastian. San Sebastian with its elegant French architecture and picture-perfect beach is a city that still retains its aristocratic feel of a bygone era. Feel free to indulge in a swim in the salty Cantabrian or a snooze on the beach. Once we dock in San Sebastian. Take time to explore the city and enjoy on your own the notorious pintxos and wine in San Sebastian’s historic quarter – We regroup for a cooking demonstration in a private gastronomy club withour local hero Chef Montxo. First we learn how to make and then to enjoy delicious local dishes.

Day 6Hemingway in the Pyrenees

We transfer into the nearby Pyrenees to begin along excellent tertiary roads, which meander through charming Basque villages, along the Irati River. Ernest Hemingway would go for dips in these waters, which he described as “clear as light.” We follow his trail to where he loved to go spend the afternoons trout fishing, while cycling through parts of the Camino de Santiago. We visit the small hotel and the very room where the Nobel laureate slept, which the family has kept the same for all these years. Stay to enjoy an authentic Hemingway-style lunch. We transfer to Pamplona. Take time to explore the hotel or venture with us to sample the world-renowned pintxos paired with spectacular wines and revel in the lively and exciting atmosphere; good-byes do not get better than this.

Day 7A Taste of Saint James Way

Our ride begins along the pilgrimage route that dates back to the 12th century. Along the way we stop at a castle winery for a wine tasting experience. Cycling through undulating vineyards and olive groves, we head to Viana, the last town in Navarra on the pilgrimage route, and a defensive stronghold during the Middle Ages. Lunch is a classic Navarra meal in an asador where they specialize in grilling T-bone steaks over wood fires. Afternoon pleasures include a a spectacular wine experience that you likely never forget, followed by pintxo dinner out on the town of Logroño in their well known Calle de Laurel.
