Day 1Settling in

We begin with a meet and greet welcome, and an opportunity to select your E-bikes to fit, and then a spin in the direction of the Navarra Pyrenees. Enjoy a cooking demonstration in a private gastronomy club. First we learn how to make and then to enjoy.

Day 2Start at the Top

Our cycling day begins with views of the snow capped Pyrénées, which can be seen from the highest point of this stage of the Camino. Cruise slowly down to Roncesvalles monastery and the crypt where a king and queen of Navarra were laid to rest. Its strategic location gave rise to many historic battles and legends involving figures like Charlemagne, Wellington, and Napoleon. Cycle along the ever-widening river Arga, and enter the ancient city gate, El Portal de Francia, into the Pamplona citadel. The capital of Navarra is a jewel in the rough. In the cobbled streets of the historic quarter discover 2000 years of history and culture and find out why Hemingway was captivated by its year-round festive street life atmosphere. Learn about the running of the bulls while enjoying delightful pintxos and wines on a culinary walking tour of the city’s old quarter.

Day 3Into The Medieval Ages

We ride through low-lying woods, rolling hills and golden meadows. We cross one of the most iconic spots of the Camino, El Paso del Perdón (The Pass of Forgiveness), from where we have views of two valleys. We enjoy great landscapes which are quite different from the Pyrenee landscapes of the day before. Shrines and carved stones mark our way. We stop to take a photo on the famous bridge of Puente de la Reina. We cycle along charming narrow streets in the medieval village of Estella, discovering its unique Romanesque and Gothic architecture. The afternoon includes a visit to an exclusive winery, for wine tasting among the vineyards.

Day 4Pleasures of castles and wines

Back on the Camino we stop en route for a private visit to the Navarre winery Castillo de Monjardin. Here we enjoy their crianza and reserva wines whilst soaking up the views from their majestic palace over rows of well tended grape vines and olive groves. This section of the Camino offers us easy riding along a broad pathway through a picturesque landscape of vineyards and wheat fields from Villamayor to los Arcos, Torres del Río – the largest and most powerful Templar settlement in the region – and to Viana, the city of Kings and Princes. Take time to explore the hotel, or the town, or enjoy the lively old quarter of Logroño and savour famous pintxos and wines en la calle Laurel. We then re-group for dinner at the Logroño Michelin star restaurant.

Day 5Soak up the vineyards

Our morning ride takes us through Logroño, famed for its rich gastronomy, wines, and its unique past and heritage. We travel past the pretty vineyards of the region, making our way to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, thus ending this stage of our route through the Ebro valley. At the end of the day take time on your own to explore the hotel, or the town, or join us on a group visit to Santo Domingo de la Calzada – a small town with a huge history.

Day 6Through the ages from Atapuerca

Both the scenic countryside and the diversity of landscape make this section of the Camino great fun. On leaving Santo Domingo we ride on level pathways, then proceed on winding paths up hills into the Oca Mountains, followed by vertiginous descents to San Juan de Ortega. We visit the World Heritage archaeological site of Atapuerca where the caves contain a rich fossil record of the earliest human beings in Europe dating back almost one million years. Take time to explore the UNESCO Cathedral of Burgos. This evening dine on your own – our guides can readily recommend a few favorite restaurants.

Day 7Serenity on the Castilian Plateau

Along the Camino across the Castilian plateau, we will find many small villages with their As the Camino crosses the Castilian plateau we will find many small villages with centuries-old churches . We cycle through open landscapes of wheat fields towards the distant horizon which is always inviting us forward. We cross the impressive Fitero bridge over the Pisuerga River. Later we stop to admire the Spanish Romanesque architecture of the church of San Martín in Fromista, or the the ruins of the convent San Antón in Castrojeriz. No less impressive is our magnificent four star accommodation at the Hotel Monasterio de San Zoilo.

Day 8The labyrinth of León

This last day of the Camino provides easy riding through the field of Palencia on wide paths that will take us straight to the beautiful city of León. We cycle along the route of the Roman Vía Aquitana that linked the towns of Bordeaux and Astorga. Welcome to the city of Leon, a labyrinth of streets where bars and inns are plentiful. This is the ideal place to celebrate with a Ribera de Duero wine and tapas.
