Itinerary
Pamplona – Olite - Uncastillo - Sos del Rey Católico – Javier– Pamplona

Day 1Settling in

We begin with a meet and greet welcome, a chance to size up your bikes to fit and take you for a spin in the direction of the Navarra Pyrenees. Our cycling journey begins with a cooking demonstration in a private gastronomy club. First we learn how to make and then to enjoy.

Sleep: Hotel & Spa Castillo de Gorraiz ****

Day 2From the Pre-Pyrenees to Majestic Castle

We leave Pamplona and set off toward the Navarran Pyrenees, riding along a portion of the Saint James Way. We ride on what once was a 1920’s train track, passing through man-made tunnels and into an impressive gorge that is presently a vulture reserve. We transfer by vehicle to Olite with a last stop en route at the stunning church-fortress village of Ujué, voted Navarra’s most beautiful village in 2018. The winding cobblestone roads take us to a small family restaurant where we enjoy the delicious local specialty migas del pastor – a rustic shepherd’s meal. The fairy tale castle of Olite awaits us. One of the most outstanding castles in northern Spain, we get a private visit through its courtyards, royal chambers and towers. We follow this with a private winery visit and wine tasting at an exclusive Navarre winery. Dinner is served to our “royal guests” in the castle hotel dining room.

Day 3Royal Visit of the Kingdom of Aragon

We travel to medieval Aragon, the land of kings and queens, to the magical town of Uncastillo. The intertwining histories of Navarra and Aragon make for better drama than anyone could invent: plots, betrayals, revenge, and war enough to fill anyone’s imagination. We stop to visit the impressive villa where Fernando the Catholic was born, perhaps the most famous king in Spanish history. We carry on through a landscape of beautiful almond trees, which bloom in early spring. In the medieval town of Sos del Rey Católico, founded in the year 900, we take a tour with our local hero guide. Tonight’s dinner is one you won’t soon forget – it’s a meal fit for royalty.

Day 4A Gregorian Day

Restored by a delicious buffet breakfast, we head out to the most impressive monastery in the kingdom of Navarra. We cycle on paths through beautiful almond trees while enjoying the fresh country air. We visit the Leyre Monastery and the graves of the astounding medieval Navarra Kings, then, as the sun goes down on the monastery church we listen to the resident Benedictine monks sing Gregorian chants. We have dinner and stay in the monastery.

Day 5Into The Medieval Ages

This stage of our millenary shepherd’s way offers a subtle contrast of landscapes and colors. We cross historic paths and see monuments dating back from ancient times up to the present. We cycle to the majestic 10th century medieval castle of Javier, then follow the Irati River to the beautiful Lumbier gorge and a vulture sanctuary. Expect to see these majestic birds sailing overhead on windy thermals. Time for a well-deserved rest, spa session, and food and wine tribute to the heroes of our E-bike crusade to two Kingdoms. This evening, dine on your own in Pamplona – our guides can readily recommend a few favorite restaurants or simply enjoy the delightful pintxos and wines in the lively old quarter.
