Join us on the Running of the Bulls Walkabout while we go bar hopping for gastronomic delights such as our notorious pintxos, then relaxing on a terrace where we can watch the Camino de Santiago pilgrims stroll into town. Walk through the cobbled streets in the heart of the historic quarter to discover the 3000 years of history and culture of Pamplona.
To the heavenly vegetable region of Southern Navarra
Watch the landscapes turn from green to gold as we begin our gastronomic adventure to southern Navarra and acres of vineyards and olive groves. We travel south with a brief stop to discover Navarra’s unique desert las Bardenas Reales. A spectacular biosphere reserve shaped by the wind and abrupt torrential rains. The landscape is so dramatic that it has been used as the film set for many well-known films, like the Game of Thrones. We continue our journey south to Tudela, the cradle of vegetable production in the territory that goes back to Roman times. The profound Arab tradition and influence can still be felt and seen today in its irrigation and water management architecture. Tudela’s centuries-old title of leader in agricultural culture and knowledge allows us to enjoy the very best in vegetables. Join us for a delicious stroll into the chef’s garden where we collect the season’s best produce, then with our baskets of fresh veggies in hand, we return to our chef’s magnificent restaurant for an exquisite seven-dish sampling menu where our garden vegetable collection takes on a different form. This experience will have you redefining the word vegetable by the time you savor the third dish! We leave the land of vegetables to travel west to La Rioja, a region rightly renowned for its exquisite wines.
Vineyards of all Kinds
We brunch in Logroño, the capital of wine, and discover its medieval streets and centuries-old traditions that are hidden in the local wine cellars. Let’s follow the footsteps of Hemingway and learn the cultural and recreational values of the wine while enjoying our brunch in one of Hemingway’s favourite Logroño restaurants. In the Rioja region, we visit three wineries, giving you a rich insight into wine traditions. First we experience the heart and soul of a small family winery, then move on to the grandeur of the well known winery Marques de Riscal, and its elegant and colourful buildings designed by the American architect Frank Gehry. Finally we visit The Rioja Alavesa which produces wines of an unusual and different character. Only in this small region can we enjoy this unique combination of wine experiences and then end the day sleeping in a wine cellar or in an old castle.
Crossing the mountains to the north we come to the plains of Alava, where Vitoria, the greenest capital in Europe, offers its own particular gastronomy. This charming city of medieval streets and a fortress cathedral, inspired several writers that depict the medieval times, such as Ken Follet. After a delightful culinary experience in the city, we drive through a rugged green canyon to Orduña - once the capital of Bizkaia - and discover this quaint village’s hidden nooks and crannies. Later we head to the modern city of Bilbao.
The Modern City of Bilbao
Discover the perfect combination of modernity and tradition in the city of Bilbao which offers the best of modern gastronomy and cosmopolitan lifestyle. Bilbao, a city that has managed to reinvent itself from an industrial past to a cosmopolitan present, offers modern museums and contemporary architecture. In addition, within its wide modern streets, it hides a medieval quarter that was once a village in itself. The highlights of the day are a visit to the art museums, including the Guggenheim Museum, and savoring pintxos.
