Ivan Lopez

Some winemakers talk about terroir.
Iván invites you to sit with it.

Riojan by birth and Navarran by destiny, Iván López-Barco found his life’s project among the rugged hills of Lerga, where he co-leads Bodegas Caudalia — one of the most characterful boutique wineries in the Navarra DO.

Charismatic, thoughtful and unmistakably sincere, Iván is the kind of person who says exactly what he thinks — and means every word. Conversations with him drift naturally from vineyard soils to regional history, from gastronomy to philosophy, always grounded in a simple belief: if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing properly.

He is a natural host and an exceptional narrator of vineyard stories, bringing the landscape to life with honesty and depth. Time with Iván feels unfiltered and rare — the kind of exchange that stays with you long after the glass is empty.

One of his favourite rituals says everything about him:
meeting among ancient Roman ruins, opening a bottle, and letting meaningful conversation unfold as the land quietly speaks around you.

But Caudalia is also a partnership in the truest sense.

Together with his wife — the winery’s oenologist and a master of rosé winemaking — Iván forms part of an extraordinary duo. Her rosés are widely considered among the finest in the world, drawing wine lovers who travel across continents to taste them and meet the people behind the bottles. Side by side, they lead the winery with shared vision, quiet excellence and deep respect for their craft.
Their project is personal.
Their standards, uncompromising.
Their welcome, genuine.
Iván’s journey from La Rioja to Navarra is more than geography — it’s a story woven through landscapes, vineyards and historic places he’ll be delighted to share. Stories best told slowly, glass in hand.
Time at Caudalia isn’t just a winery visit in Navarra.
It’s an encounter with people who truly live what they create.
