Commencing in the town of San Sebastian on the sparkling blue sea on the Basque Coast, we road bike inland to the wine province of Northern Spain. We cycle through the French Basquelands, skirting the foothills of the Navarran Pyrenees, on parts of the legendary Camino de Santiago, through rolling vineyards. The North of Spain is full of sensory pleasure and authentic local experiences. The Michelin-starred restaurants and rustic farm-fresh meals, and the food and wine of the region are unparalleled.

Riding in one direction gives a sense of completion to our route. We coast to the Cantabrian Sea, then we cycle through the French Basque lands, then skirt the Navarre pre Pyrenees. Get ready for enchanting landscapes of rolling hills, grazing sheep and potoka horses. Our ride ends at a Michelin Recommended restaurant with time to shower and change and then for a sit down meal. We transfer to your final destination is Pamplona, one of the top cities in Spain for gourmet eating. This dinner is a NST group dinner event, where you join us food-lovers as we cook up a storm. After dinner, stroll through the charming cobbled streets in the heart of the historic quarter of Pamplona to discover 2000 years of history and culture. Learn about the running of the bulls, Hemingway’s history with this town, visit the Cathedral and other historic spots.

This morning we will transfer to Viana, which is on the provincial border of Navarra and Rioja to begin a ride along the best portion of country roads and vineyard terrain that will bring you directly to your ever-so-famous Frank Gehry hotel. Afternoon pleasures include wine-tasting in a top winery, one of Hemingway’s stops. Here we visit their underground cellar and we will taste a Gran Reserva, among other wines, paired with delicious Iberian ham. “Wine is one of the most civilised things in the world…” Hemingway wrote in Death in the Afternoon. Dinner can be in your hotel or you may opt for a dinner-trip on your own the mediaeval town of Laguardia, which is perched on top of 300 cellars carved out of the rock. *This dinner is not included in the package.

This morning we will cycle out of the hotel and stop to admire the twin 11th-century monasteries, Yuso and Suso, in San Millan de la Cogolla. Our ride ends at a Michelin Recommended restaurant, La Vieja Bodega, with time to shower and change and then for a sit down meal. We transfer to Ezcaray and shop and stroll this quaint mountainous town. Dinner can be in your hotel or you may opt for a dinner-trip on your own the mediaeval town of Ezcaray. *This dinner is not included in the package.

Walking
You love to hike and are not afraid of a little sweat and some good uphills.
Our trip may include 12-15 km (7-10 miles) a day on various grades of terrain on a diversity of surfaces. Expect steeper climbs with phenomenal views and mountainscapes.
Biking
You love to bike at home regularly and can handle some sweat.
Our trip may include 40-60 km (25-40 miles) a day on rolling terrain with a few longer climbs rewarded with views and high points you will not want to miss.
Walking
You enjoy longer hikes with an incline or two and don’t mind pushing it a bit. Our trip may include around 6-12 km (4-8 miles) a day of walking on mostly flat terrain with a couple steeper but non-sustained climbs.
Biking
You ride your bike at home and are comfortable on a bike for a few hours. Our trip may include 40-60 km (25-40 miles) a day on mostly flat terrain and will include inclines and the occasional sustained climb.
Walking
You love to push yourself and can handle a longer hike with some sustained inclines and steep uphills. Our trip may include 10-15 km (6 -10 miles) on terrain that can be quite hilly and rolling with a few steeper climbs thrown in for good measure. The views will blow you away.
Biking
Test your mettle on off-the-beaten-paths that will stun and delight, along with legendary cycling routes in the north of Spain. You are an avid rider who loves to push themselves and enjoy the challenge of a big climb or sustained inclines. Our trip may include over 60-80 km (37 – 49 miles) a day in rolling hills with frequent climbs and even longer options available. You will be the master of your universe.
Walking
You like to go on walks at home but nothing that works up a sweat. Our trip may include around 5-10 km (3-6 miles) a day of walking on mostly flat terrain, with an occasional hill on well maintained trails or walkways.
Biking
You are in decent shape but don’t habitually ride a bike at home. Our trip may include 30-50 km (20-30 miles) a day on mostly flat terrain with a few small and achievable inclines.
