Your Northern Spain Travel guides will welcome you in Bilbao. From there we travel to La Rioja where we will fit the bikes to perfection and ready ourselves for the journey ahead. Our first ride begins at the gates of the Rioja wine region on an epic Rioja trail with sweeping views of the region before stopping for lunch in the majestic heritage hotel Los Agustinos in Haro, the “capital del Rioja”. In the heart of the wine region, our afternoon pleasures consists of private visits and wine-tastings in two of the most authentic and oldest wineries of the Rioja Alta.

Today we are off on the Camino de Santiago to the twin 11th-century monasteries, Yuso and Suso, in San Millan de la Cogolla. After stopping on the decent for an informal lunch in a nearby village we coast down to our final destination, ElCiego. Regardless of how you get there, you will relax and enjoy yourselves at the Marques de Riscal Spa. You may opt for a dinner-trip on your own to sample the local pintxos at the medieval town of Laguardia, which is perched on top of 300 cellars carved out of the rock.

This morning we transfer to Viana to begin our ride from this Medieval walled town, home of Kings and Princes who protected the southwestern border of Navarra, land of castles and wines. Our cycling route ends as we reach one of the most prestigious wineries in the province of Navarra. Here we sample Navarran crianza and reserva wines and aperitifs before we transfer to Pamplona. This evening, explore the city before we regroup for dinner together in a private gastronomy club in the heart of the historic quarter.

Our last day together we coast to the Cantabrian Sea. We cycle along side the ancient train route that once connected Pamplona with San Sebastian, taking us through green landscapes, over mountain passes and gentle slopes. Riding to the ocean gives a sense of completion to our route and the perfect way to complete a week of road biking this magnificent region. Take time to explore the hotel or San Sebastian then re-group for dinner. We venture out to sample the world-renowned pintxos paired with spectacular wines and to revel in the lively and exciting atmosphere – good-byes do not get better than this.

Since 1898, this remodeled stagecoach post is family establishment passed from parents to children, making Echaurren a centenary building. Walking
You love to hike and are not afraid of a little sweat and some good uphills.
Our trip may include 12-15 km (7-10 miles) a day on various grades of terrain on a diversity of surfaces. Expect steeper climbs with phenomenal views and mountainscapes.
Biking
You love to bike at home regularly and can handle some sweat.
Our trip may include 40-60 km (25-40 miles) a day on rolling terrain with a few longer climbs rewarded with views and high points you will not want to miss.
Walking
You enjoy longer hikes with an incline or two and don’t mind pushing it a bit. Our trip may include around 6-12 km (4-8 miles) a day of walking on mostly flat terrain with a couple steeper but non-sustained climbs.
Biking
You ride your bike at home and are comfortable on a bike for a few hours. Our trip may include 40-60 km (25-40 miles) a day on mostly flat terrain and will include inclines and the occasional sustained climb.
Walking
You love to push yourself and can handle a longer hike with some sustained inclines and steep uphills. Our trip may include 10-15 km (6 -10 miles) on terrain that can be quite hilly and rolling with a few steeper climbs thrown in for good measure. The views will blow you away.
Biking
Test your mettle on off-the-beaten-paths that will stun and delight, along with legendary cycling routes in the north of Spain. You are an avid rider who loves to push themselves and enjoy the challenge of a big climb or sustained inclines. Our trip may include over 60-80 km (37 – 49 miles) a day in rolling hills with frequent climbs and even longer options available. You will be the master of your universe.
Walking
You like to go on walks at home but nothing that works up a sweat. Our trip may include around 5-10 km (3-6 miles) a day of walking on mostly flat terrain, with an occasional hill on well maintained trails or walkways.
Biking
You are in decent shape but don’t habitually ride a bike at home. Our trip may include 30-50 km (20-30 miles) a day on mostly flat terrain with a few small and achievable inclines.
