A Museum for Three

A Museum for Three

When: Summer 2026 · Where: Madrid, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza · Part of: A ten-day wine journey

Two hours with the Thyssen-Bornemisza closed to everyone else, following the thread of wine through its walls.
In short. For two hours, at the hours the guests chose, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid was closed to everyone else for a private visit by three travelers, with the emphasis on the works most tied to wine.
A museum is rarely empty. The Thyssen-Bornemisza opened in 1992 in the Villahermosa Palace, with a collection built over two generations of one family and bought by the Spanish state in 1993. More than seven hundred works, across seven centuries.

You ask for the whole museum. For two hours, at the hours you want, it closes to everyone else.

There is a winemaker in the group, so the visit follows a thread: wine. The museum keeps its own themed route on wine in art, and the walk puts the emphasis on the works most tied to it.

There is no queue. No crowd. No one else in the room. Afterwards, you call the private tour “really great.”

You asked for the whole museum. We made the call. — Northern Spain Travel

How a journey works. It begins with a conversation about what you want to accomplish and what has surprised you on other journeys. Then you are introduced to the people who hold the places: families, producers and guides who have lived here for generations, whose projects are put on the map. Behind every journey, a team watches every transfer and every driver. Hotels and hosts know the hour you arrive and say your name before you give it. One person is assigned to you, and the phone is answered at any hour. Start the conversation.
